U.S. Foodservice launches North Star Foodservice

Friday, May 12, 2006 U.S. Foodservice announces its multi-unit restaurant division will operate under the name North Star Foodservice. "North Star Foodservice's mission is to be known as the best-in-class provider of food and related products and services to leading multi-unit restaurant customers. We believe we have the experience, technology and equipment to meet the specialized needs of the fastest-growing segments in the restaurant industry," said Pat Mulhern, president of North Star Foodservice. To ensure maximum customer value, North Star's new organizational structure was based on customer input, according to Mulhern. "Our new slogan, `Making Your Business Ours,' reflects our exclusive focus on the challenging distribution requirements of casual dining, fast-casual and quick-service companies," Mulhern said. North Star, which employs 2,100 associates in 11 locations throughout the U.S., serves high-profile regional and national chains. "North Star will use a full team approach to serve our customers, encompassing procurement, operations, food safety, logistics and customer service. North Star Foodservice will provide each customer with a single point of contact. Our dedicated managers are some of the most experienced professionals in the industry," Mulhern said. North Star Foodservice is part of America's second largest foodservice distribution company, U.S. Foodservice. As the chain operation of U.S. Foodservice, sales in 2005 were $2.8 billion, with the unit shipping more than 114 million cases of product to America's leading restaurant companies.
